My birthday cake
The best part of being a good dog is getting lots of treats. I love treats and when I’m a good dog the treats just keep comin’. I’m not always a good dog and I resolve to be better in 2023.
I resolve not to do the scoochie thing on the carpet. The carpet is the perfect place to do the scoochie. Dogs don’t have access to toilet paper unless we pull it from the roll (that’s another story) and the scoochie thing is the next best solution. I tried to schooch outside on the patio but only once, it was kinda ouchie.
I resolve not to counter surf. When standing on my hind legs the kitchen counter is just perfect for sniffing and if I hold my head just right I can use my tongue to clean off the counter. Sometimes I can even grab a paper towel and tear it into little bits. Then it looks like the popcorn popper exploded all over the house. Speaking of popcorn, I love popcorn, it is one of my favorite treats. I can even catch it in the air when dad tosses it.
I resolve not to jump on guests. Mom and dad are always upset when I jump on our guests. It doesn’t make sense because mom and dad let me jump up and put my feet on their chests and then they rub my ears. They don’t seem to mind so why are the rules different for guests. Human behavior is confusing. I don’t think the guests mind, I’m sure they want to say hello to me while they look me right in the eye. I mean I love that face to face contact.
I resolve not to sniff crotches. In lieu of that face to face contact I guess a good crotch sniff will work. It seems like no one likes that though. How else can I decide if this person is a friend or someone I should be barking at. This year I’m going to try to keep my butt on the floor and wait for the guests to say hello to me. I might just lay down and coax the guest into a belly rub.
I resolve not to pull on the leash. I think everyone knows I’m the leader of the pack, so I should walk in front of the pack and you guys can follow me. It is annoying when I have to keep pulling you along so you can keep up.
I resolve to keep my head up.I know sometimes I walk with my nose on the ground but you just don’t understand the good smells that are down here. This is just like your Facebook although this one might be called Buttbook. I get to know everything about the dogs that have passed this way today. And you know there have been a lot of dogs come by here. Just yesterday I noticed that Molly had a tummy ache and Fisher is feeling stressed. I hope they are both better tomorrow.
My people and I walk every morning. In the summer we get up early and walk first thing but in the winter we have breakfast first and then go for a walk. I love the park here, that is one of the things I love about our new home. In our old neighborhood dad was always telling me to watch for snakes and stay out of the cactus. He never says that anymore
I resolve to actually go out or come in when I bark at the door I love that I can be inside the house and bark at the door and my people come and let me out. Sometimes I don’t really want to go out I just want them to come see me. Mom looks annoyed but I know she doesn’t really mind.. If I do go out to lay in the sunshine for a bit, when I want to come in I bark at the door and they hurry to let me in. Sometimes I just stand there for a while and they close the door but I know they are standing just on the other side of the door and will let me in when I bark again. Usually I wait at the door and then have to run and get my dragon that I left outside, but my people wait for me.
Mom and I have a daily routine that I love. After breakfast mom picks up her book and I pick up my dragon and we head outside for a bit. Mom and I are a lot alike, we both love to sit in the morning sunshine. Even in the afternoon I know when mom picks up her book it means we are going outside.
I resolve not to always be first to get to the bed. When it is time for bed I don’t even have to be reminded I’m already heading for the bedroom. I love that we all three fit in the same bed. Sometimes I sneak in there early while my people are watching TV and I snooze on mom’s pillow. When they get here I have to jump over the bedspread when it is pulled down and I go to the bottom of the bed. When it is morning I hear my people stir and I sneak back up and say good morning. I love these people.
I resolve to be a very good dog in 2023- so bring on the treats
